SONGZA RETURNS AS “COLLABORATIVE” CUSTOMIZED NET RADIO The streaming music service Songza has returned (in beta) as a platform for listeners to collaboratively create Internet radio stations. A company press release says, “Songza.com gives users the ability to collaborate with friends, family, co-workers or even strangers to create the perfect shared station for any occasion, with a library of over 8,000,000 songs to choose from.” Songza originally launched in 2007 as a search engine that allowed consumers to find music online for on-demand and playlist-based listening. Songza says the new non-interactive radio service is DMCA compliant and ad-supported, and will soon offer mobile apps.
AIRKAST, TRITON ANNOUNCE 3 NEW RADIO CUSTOMERSAirKast and Triton Digital announced this week three new joint customers: broadcasters Bonneville International, Hall Communications and NRG Media. AirKast will develop mobile apps for the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android platforms for all three broadcasters. The apps will integrate Triton Digital’s streaming, measurement, and ad injection services from its Ando Media Group division.
DIGITAL LISTENING SHARE STILL GROWING IN UKUK radio listening via digital platforms continues to grow, while listening via mobile phones remains steady, says RAJAR, which announced its 2010 2nd Quarter study this week. The share of radio listening that’s done via a digital platform rose 17% to 24.6% (from 21.1% in Q2, 2009). DAB’s (their HD Radio counterpart) share is up 20% to 15.8%. Internet radio listening rose an impressive 33%, but that increase is from a not-as-impressive 3.6% to 4.1% share. 12.5% of adults aged 15+ in Q2, 2010 say they have listened to radio via their mobile phone.share: del.icio.us.
