An article on Emarketer’s website cites a new Nielsen study that shows fully 25% of mobile phone owners in the U.S. now have smartphones. Nielsen predicts that by the end of next year in this country, there will be more smartphones in the field than “non-smartphones,” (aka “feature phones”). Emarketer is a research and analysis firm focusing on the digital marketing and media sector. Read more here. LEADING PUREPLAY WEBCASTER DIGITALLY IMPORTED UNVEILS IPHONE APPInternet-only webcaster Digitally Imported, which specializes in electronic music, on Friday released its official app for the Apple iPhone (in the App Store here). The free app, as of press time, has garnered an average four-and-a-half star rating (out of five, and from a total of 58 users ratings). One reviewer said the app works “phenomenally well,” and cited the programs ability to cache and reconnect when the signal is temporarily lost. Yesterday RAIN reported that Digitally Imported was one of three Internet-only webcasters debuting in Ando Media’s “Domestic” Top 20 rankings for June. (All three had previously appeared in the “All Streams” rankings. Ando Media is now capable of breaking out U.S.-based listening for Internet-only webcasters who stream in the Shoutcast (aka streaming MP3) format.).
