 RAIN 10/15: Cellphone is the "gadget of choice" among Americans, says new Pew research ·Oct 15, 10:10 AM STUDY: 96% OF 18-29 YEAR-OLDS OWN MOBILE PHONEThe cellphone is the “gadget of choice” among Americans, says a newly-released Pew Research study. In fact, 85% of Americans own a mobile phone. And if there’s any doubt about the “necessity” of a cellphone among young adults, Pew found that 96% of 18-to-29 year-olds own a mobile phone.
Meanwhile, 47% of Americans now own an mp3 player — that’s up from 11% in 2005. 4% own a tablet computer. The Pew study also examined ownership rates for laptops, desktop computers, game consoles and ebook readers. The typical American under the age of 45, says Pew, is likely to own 4 of these devices. NPR LAUNCHES ALL SONGS CONSIDERED NET RADIO STREAMTo celebrate their 10th anniversary, NPR’s All Songs Considered has launched a 24/7 streaming radio station. It’s available online, through NPR’s iPhone music app and soon on Android devices as well. “You can hear all the songs we’ve played on the show since it started in 2000,” writes Bob Boilen (here), “plus a few extra treats and surprises.”
The stream’s content may change though. “Maybe we’ll fill it with holiday songs, or maybe the best music of 2010 as we near the end of the year. Maybe we’ll put a concert in the stream every night or have a week where there are nothing but full concerts to hear.”
977MUSIC.COM DEBUTS FACEBOOK APPLICATION977Music.com has launched a Facebook application, allowing users to share playlists they’ve created and other 977Music content with their friends.
