RAIN 10/29: Net radio conjures up Halloween spririt
SO MANY LISTENING OPTIONS FOR HALLOWEEN FANS, IT’S SCARY!Internet radio enthusiasts have no shortage of listening treats for the Halloween weekend. While most multi-channel operators have put together (or pulled out of storage) a stream or two for the holiday, there are several Internet radio sources dedicated to Halloween that’ll likely see some big traffic surges over the next few days.
HalloweenRadio.net welcomes visitors with its original, multi-genre ‘Halloween Radio’ channel, a more focused and deeper ‘Halloween Oldies’, and a scary sound effects stream called ‘Halloween Atmosphere.’
Celebrating its 10th year of streaming, NeverEnding Wonder Radio boasts three streams of Halloween music: its main, multi-genre music stream is also called ‘Halloween Radio;’ ‘Welcome to Weirdsville’ specializes in novelty records and comedy; and ‘Halloween on Broadway’ showcases the scary side of the Broadway stage.
Another option is 13th Track (see the player shot at left). While there’s only a single stream, it does offer some songs for “on-demand” listening.
“Hat tip” to Corey Dietz at About.com (his run-down of Halloween radio options is here) for pointing out the Halloween-themed podcast Channel 66.6 HM. Its topics include horror movies, haunted attractions, and “Retched Radio” which features “golden age of radio” Halloween-themed music. Unfortunately, the ’24/7’ stream version of the service (here) didn’t work for us.
Of course, you can do your own hunting via Radiotime (try this) and Shoutcast (here). And finally, for a Halloween treat you can “personalize,” scare yourself silly with Slacker, create your own station (or try someone else’s) at Pandora, or customize the artist roster on the just-launched AccuRadio Halloween channel. Happy Halloween!
