APP LETS PATRONS CONTROL MUSIC IN PUBLIC VENUES An iPhone and web-based app called PlayMySong lets patrons control the music a participating public venue plays. Users navigate to a special mobile-friendly website (or use the free iPhone app) and request music from a playlist.
The playlist of music is actually hosted on the host’s iPhone or iPod — meaning this could also be a great solution for house parties. “From day one, we realized that this is something bigger than just a mobile jukebox,” said PlayMySong co-founder Rami Korhonen. PIONEER, PHILIPS, JBL JUMP ON APPLE’S AIRPLAY BAND WAGONRemember AirPlay, Apple’s wireless music system that lets iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users stream audio — including Internet radio — to wireless receivers? It can essentially create a multi-room wireless Internet radio system, but you need some hardware to actually play your music.
Now you have a few more options. JBL, Pioneer and Philips have all announced AirPlay compatible stereos, each with its own distinct look-and-feel. Pioneer’s VSX-1021 is a straight-up audio receiver (more here), while JBL’s On Air Wireless AirPlay speaker dock (pictured) includes a color screen for display metadata (more here). Finally, Philips’ $1,100 Fidelio SoundSphere speakers sport an unusual look (more here). VW CONCEPT VAN “DOES iPAD INTEGRATION RIGHT” We’ve seen a few in-car iPad set-ups in the past (RAIN coverage here and here), but now VW throws their hat in the ring with their Bulli van concept. “After seeing many atrocious attempts, it seemed factory iPad integration was something that simply shouldn’t happen,” writes Engadget. “Now, in Volkswagen’s Bulli concept, we’re seeing something that makes sense — something we’ve wanted to see for a while now.”
