RAIN Summit West 2011’s agenda now includes over two dozen speakers, eight panels and of course a special “fireside” keynote presentation from CBS Radio president/CEO Dan Mason. SURVEY HINTS SIRIUS XM PONDERING CUSTOMIZABLE ONLINE RADIO FEATURESA new survey from Sirius XM asks listeners about their Internet radio preferences, especially regarding Pandora. The survey reportedly quizzes listeners about what they like and dislike about Pandora, what Pandora-like features they would want included in Sirius XM and if they’d pay extra for the new features.
To observer Satellite Radio Playground, the survey shows that Sirius XM “may be looking to expand their Internet radio offerings further…there is certainly excitement in the air.” Read more here. Sirius XM CEO Mel Karmazin has leaked a few details about the upcoming 2.0 service, including Pandora-like features (RAIN coverage here and here). INAUGURAL WORLDWIDE RADIO SUMMIT APRIL 29-30; POLLS CLOSE TODAY FOR INDUSTRY AWARDSAllAccess and A&R Worldwide will present their first annual Worldwide Radio Summit April 29-30 at the W Hotel in Hollywood.
The event will include the Worldwide Radio Summit Industry Awards, the winners for which will be determined by public vote. In fact, today is the final day of voting. With “radio across many platforms” as its stated concept, the WRS has scheduled several platforms addressing new technologies and new media applications of interest to radio, like social networking and “crowd-sourced” programming. ABI RESEARCH: CLOUD-BASED MUSIC TO REACH MORE THAN 160 MILLION BY 2016ABI Research estimates that cloud-based music services — currently reaching 5.9 million consumers — will be used by over 160 million by 2016. That means a compound annual growth rate of nearly 95%. By then, cloud-based streaming services will be more popular than owning albums or songs, ABI Research states.
