RAIN 5/19: Radio Ink recognizes RAIN's Hanson with Luminary Award
HANSON CELEBRATED FOR “LONG TRACK RECORD OF LEADERSHIP AND EXPERTISE”Radio Ink presented RAIN publisher and AccuRadio founder/CEO Kurt Hanson with the Luminary Award yesterday. Hanson received the award during the first annual Radio Ink Digital Awards at Convergence 11, being held now at the Microsoft Silicon Valley Campus in Mountain View, CA.
The Luminary Award, writes Radio Ink, celebrates individuals with a “strong track record of leadership and innovation in radio digital platforms for at least a decade.”
Radio Ink presented other awards to ESPN Radio for Best Radio App and WEEI Sports Radio Network for Best Radio Station Website (Markets 1-10). You can read more coverage from Radio Ink here.
SOLID GROWTH FROM NEARLY ALL WEBCASTERS IN MARCH WEBCAST METRICSNearly all of the Top 20 webcasters in Triton Digital’s (formerly Ando Media) March 2011 Webcast Metrics show solid month-to-month increases, with most growing their audiences by 10-12%.
Broadcasters experienced especially strong growth. In the domestic Mon-Sun 6a-12m ranking, Univision’s AAS (Average Active Sessions, which is essentially equivalent to AQH — i.e., average simultaneous listeners) grew 14% since February. Close behind are EMF Corporate (13%), Cumulus (12%), Greater Media (12%), Emmis (12%) and Entercom (10%).
Additionally, after several months of decline, #2-ranked CBS Radio’s AAS grew 5% since February. Clear Channel, in the #3 spot, also grew 5%.
Pureplays also did well, with 977Music.com Corporate growing 10%, AccuRadio increasing 9% and Slacker up 7%.
Pandora’s AAS grew 1% month-to-month, though Triton Digital’s numbers are still affected by the inadvertent omission of tracking code from some of Pandora’s mobile apps. This problem will also affect Triton Digital’s April Webcast Metrics.

APPLE RUMORED TO BE CLOSING DEALS WITH LABELS FOR STREAMING SERVICECNet reports that Apple has apparently closed a cloud-music licensing deal with EMI Music and could reach agreements with Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment by the end of next week. The company has already reached a deal with Warner Music Group.
This means Apple could have signed deals with all four top record companies by June 6 — the start of the WWDC, an event Apple traditionally uses to announce new products and services. CNet writes that having such deals could make Apple’s cloud service easier to use than similar offerings from Google and Amazon. You can find CNet‘s coverage here.
GRACE DIGITAL ADDS DAR.FM’S DVR-LIKE FEATURESGrace Digital has announced it will ship its Wi-Fi tabletop Internet radios with a free account on DAR.fm capable of recording about 70 hours of talk shows. DAR.fm is the new start-up from Michael Robertson, who describes the service as a DVR for radio (RAIN coverage here).
“For the 53 million Americans who listen to talk radio each week, they can now have all their favorite shows recorded every day and available at their schedule not the broadcasters,” Robertson said. You can find more coverage from Radio World here.
Relatedly, Robertson is presenting the keynote address at Radio Ink‘s Convergence 11 conference today. Find out more from Radio Ink here.
