RAIN 6/2: CBS to relaunch MP3.com in late June ·Jun 2, 10:27 AM CBS RADIO WILL AIR 150m IMPRESSIONS FOR NEW SITECBS will relaunch the storied MP3.com website in late June, according to CBS Interactive president David Goodman. The site will focus on new and unsigned artists, initially offering one million songs for free.
CBS will drive traffic to the new MP3.com through deep integration with Last.fm and more than 150 million on-air impressions on CBS Radio’s 90 music stations. Much like its original incarnation, the revamped MP3.com will rely on uploaded music. In this case, artists will upload their music and agree to relieve MP3.com and CBS of all royalty and licensing obligations. CBS Radio president/CEO Dan Mason announced at RAIN Summit West in April that MP3.com would be relaunched soon (RAIN coverage here). Instead, the service hosts 75 million scientific journal articles. FORMER NPR CEO BECOMES NBC NEW’S CHIEF DIGITAL OFFICERFormer NPR CEO/president Vivian Schiller (pictured right) has been appointed NBC News’ Chief Digital Officer. She resigned from NPR in March in the midst of a political brouhaha. Schiller previously served as The New York Times‘ Senior Vice President and General Manager of NYTimes.com. SLACKER PD DANIELS MOVES TO L.A. NON-COMM KCSNLos Angeles non-commercial station KCSN has appointed radio veteran Sky Daniels as program director. Daniels most recently served as PD of Slacker’s Singer/Songwriter channel. He has also programmed stations like WLUP in Chicago, KISW in Seattle and KMET in Los Angeles. Sky served as General Manager for trade publication Radio & Records.TARGETSPOT TO HOST WEBINAR ON NET RADIO AD STUDY PRESENTED AT RAIN SUMMITAt RAIN Summit West in April, TargetSpot CEO Eyal Goldwerger described the impact Internet radio ad campaigns can have on consumer response rates, based on his company’s recent research. On Thursday June 9, the digital audio advertising network, along with Parks Associates (co-producer of the research), will host a webinar to further detail the study results.
