RAIN 6/2: CBS to relaunch MP3.com in late June
CBS RADIO WILL AIR 150m IMPRESSIONS FOR NEW SITECBS will relaunch the storied MP3.com website in late June, according to CBS Interactive president David Goodman. The site will focus on new and unsigned artists, initially offering one million songs for free.
CBS will drive traffic to the new MP3.com through deep integration with Last.fm and more than 150 million on-air impressions on CBS Radio’s 90 music stations.
Much like its original incarnation, the revamped MP3.com will rely on uploaded music. In this case, artists will upload their music and agree to relieve MP3.com and CBS of all royalty and licensing obligations.
CBS Radio president/CEO Dan Mason announced at RAIN Summit West in April that MP3.com would be relaunched soon (RAIN coverage here).
