RAIN 6/2: CBS to relaunch MP3.com in late June

Posted on: 06/02/2011

CBS RADIO WILL AIR 150m IMPRESSIONS FOR NEW SITE

CBS will relaunch the storied MP3.com website in late June, according to CBS Interactive president David Goodman. The site will focus on new and unsigned artists, initially offering one million songs for free.

CBS will drive traffic to the new MP3.com through deep integration with Last.fm and more than 150 million on-air impressions on CBS Radio’s 90 music stations.

Much like its original incarnation, the revamped MP3.com will rely on uploaded music. In this case, artists will upload their music and agree to relieve MP3.com and CBS of all royalty and licensing obligations.

CBS Radio president/CEO Dan Mason announced at RAIN Summit West in April that MP3.com would be relaunched soon (RAIN coverage here).

NET RADIO, iTUNES INSPIRES ONLINE NETWORK FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Mendeley is an up-and-coming crowdsourced, recommendation website inspired by Last.fm and iTunes — but it’s not focused on music. Instead, the service hosts 75 million scientific journal articles. It’s like Pandora’s brainy cousin: “If you liked that research paper, try this one,” explains the Telegraph, which has more coverage here.

TARGETSPOT TO HOST WEBINAR ON NET RADIO AD STUDY PRESENTED AT RAIN SUMMIT

At RAIN Summit West in April, TargetSpot CEO Eyal Goldwerger described the impact Internet radio ad campaigns can have on consumer response rates, based on his company’s recent research. On Thursday June 9, the digital audio advertising network, along with Parks Associates (co-producer of the research), will host a webinar to further detail the study results.

“TargetSpot’s research findings show a direct relationship between Internet radio listenership and positive broadcast radio and digital media ad recall and response rates,” said Parks Associates research analyst Heather Way, in a press release. “The data confirm digital audio is a natural complement to existing traditional and digital media ad campaigns.”
