RAIN 6/24: Lee Abrams to deliver keynote at RAIN Summit Midwest in Minneapolis

Radio legend Lee Abrams will deliver a keynote address at RAIN Summit Midwest on Saturday, July 16. The Summit takes place during the 36th annual Conclave Learning Conference in Minneapolis.

This is our second-annual RAIN Summit Midwest. You can find coverage of last year’s packed gathering (with keynoter Steve Dahl) here and register to attend with the Conclave here.

Abrams was a panelist at RAIN Summit West in Las Vegas this past April (more coverage here). We’re delighted to have him back to deliver a keynote address at RAIN Summit Midwest — it’s sure to be a “don’t miss” experience!

In addition to Abrams’ keynote address, the Summit will feature several informative panels — including discussions about programming, sales, technology, promotions and features. The Summit will also include Kurt Hanson’s State of the Industry Address and a research study (to be announced soon).

Joining us on RAIN Summit Midwest’s panels will be a dynamic line-up of Internet and radio experts, including McVay New Media’s Dan Halyburton, 1Club.fm Director of Content Sal Amato, Radio One Digital Sales Manager (Cleveland/Columbus) Tim Hall, Realtime Media’s Director of Business Development Frank Neill and Abacast Sales Manager Michael Dalfonzo. Jonas Woost, CBC Radio 3’s Executive Producer and former Head of Music at Last.fm will also join us.

INSIDE RADIO: 4 LARGE BROADCAST GROUPS BUILDING PERSONALIZED WEBCASTS WITH ACCURADIO

Inside Radio reports today: “Look out Pandora, the personalized webcast may not be quite so unique in the months and years to come. Four large broadcast groups are prepping to begin rolling out their own take on the feature next month, working with streaming media company AccuRadio…Unlike Pandora that allows users to build channels off a particular song or artist, the AccuRadio version will be based on formats.”

AccuRadio COO John Gehron (pictured) told Inside Radio, “It’s taking the best of radio, which is curated channels, and then allowing them to be personalized…From a financial standpoint it turns out to be even more successful in small markets.”

ARCHOS DEBUTS NEW ANDROID-POWERED WEB RADIO

Archos yesterday launched a new Android-powered portable web radio. The device, dubbed 35 Home Connect, sports Wi-Fi, a touchscreen and comes with TuneIn Radio’s Android app pre-installed to stream Internet radio. It will be available in September for $150.

Unlike other tabletop media devices like the Chumby or Sony Dash, the 35 Home Connect is battery-powered, making it a “web radio that should do wonders by your bedside, or kickin’ it on the beach,” as Engadget writes (here). If your local beach has a Wi-Fi hotspot, that is.

TRITON CEO NAMED MEDIA ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR IN L.A.

Triton Media Group’s president/CEO Neal Schore has been presented with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 Greater Los Angeles Award in the Media, Advertising and Leisure category. “Being named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year is a huge honor that I share with our co-founder, Mike Agovino, our investors at Oaktree Capital and our amazing Triton team,” said Schore. iPAD DOMINATES TABLET WEB USE: 97% IN U.S.

Here’s yet another reason to make sure your website and online radio stream is iPad-friendly: comScore found that iPads accounted for 97% of all tablet web traffic in the U.S. during May 2011 and 89% globally. Engadget has more coverage here.
