RAIN 8/8: RAIN begins introducing experts set to appear at Chicago Summit

Posted on: 08/08/2011

ADDITIONS INCLUDE LEADERS FROM RADIO ONE, TUNEIN, RADIO LOYALTY, CUSTOM CHANNELS

With today’s issue we want to start introducing you to some of the professionals you’ll be hearing from at RAIN Summit Chicago. The expertise of today’s additions range from mobile Internet radio to monetization.

RAIN Summit Chicago takes place on September 13 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. It immediately precedes the NAB/RAB Radio Show and will feature a keynote presentation from Pandora’s Tim Westergren.

Radio One’s General Manager of Digital Dan Shelley will join us as part of our panel, “Online Tools That Drive Offline Listening.”

Bill Moore, founder and CEO of TuneIn Radio (formerly RadioTime) will participate in our panel on mobile streaming.

RAIN Summit Chicago will also feature a panel on mobile audio ads. Radio Loyalty EVP (Lenco Mobile) Jeff Pescatello will join that discussion.

Finally, Custom Channels co-founder and co-president Dave Rahn will moderate our panel, “Sizing Up Your Audience,” a discussion about Internet radio audience measurement.

You can find out more about RAIN Summit Chicago — and register to attend — right here. Stay tuned as we’ll announce more speaker additions over the coming weeks.

SURVEY: NEARLY ALL MEDIA BUSINESS LEADERS EXPECT DIGITAL REVENUE GROWTH IN 2011

According to a new survey, 94% of communications and media business leaders expect digital revenues to increase this year. Additionally, 37% expect gains of over 10%.

Both figures are up from last year. The survey was conducted by KPMG LLP, an audit, tax and adivsory firm. All Access has more coverage here.

BENETTON LAUNCHES NET RADIO STATION

Leisurewear brand Benetton has launched a live streaming radio station to accompany the launch of its autumn and winter collection.

The stream is simple and “live” — meaning not customizable and it’s possible that listeners tune in to the middle of songs. Programming seems to focus on hits-oriented adult contemporary. Read more from Media Week here and find the new Net radio station here.

RADIOBALL CONCEPTROLLSACROSS FM DIAL

The Radioball (pictured) is an FM radio concept device without any dials, screens or buttons. Like other similar devices (here and here), the user rolls the ball to tune in to different frequencies.

Its designers tell Core77 (which highlighted the device as part of its Core77 Design Awards) that though “very soon the FM band will be part of our memories…there is something interesting in those analog memories — fussiness, imprecision, randomness, discovery.” They tried to replicate that experience with their device.

Find out more from Core77 here.
