Joining our “Online Tools That Drive Offline Listening” will be Andy Friedman, VP of Internet Initiatives for the new headline-grabbing radio company Merlin Media. He and other panelists will discuss how stations are using social media, mobile apps, video and streaming to build their broadcast audience. Paul Jacobs, General Manager of jacAPPS (the mobile application division of Jacobs Media) will also join us at RAIN Summit Chicago. He’ll moderate our “How to Advertise to Mobile Listeners” panel, a discussion on monetizing mobile apps. Triton Digital’s Rob Favre, Chief Compliance Officer and GM of Data and Analytics, will share his expertise as part of our “Sizing up Your Audience” panel. That discussion will focus on Internet radio measurement services, metrics and more. Finally, industry attorney David Oxenford will join the “Talk to My Lawyer” panel to discuss current legal issues facing the industry. Oxenford is a partner with Davis Wright Tremaine and editor of the Broadcast Law Blog. RAIN Summit Chicago takes place September 13 at the Hyatt Regency. The Summit is sponsored in part by TargetSpot, Arbitron and Radio-Info. iTUNES MATCH STREAMING APPARENTLY NOT QUITE WHAT IT SEEMSYesterday the web was abuzz (including RAIN here) about the unexpected discovery that Apple’s coming cloud music service would include streaming. But Apple says what appeared to be streaming in a developer’s video was really a feature that allows users to listen to their cloud music instantly while downloading the track.
“The result is a service that acts just like a traditional streaming service, but one which may provide a better experience for users, especially in areas of unstable network coverage for those on the go,” writes MacRumors (here). PANDORA HIRES WUSN-FM GSM TARTAGLIACBS Radio’s WUSN/Chicago (99.5) General Sales Manager Gabe Tartaglia has joined Pandora as a Regional Vice President for the Central Region. Tartaglia had served at CBS Radio since 1994 and will be succeeded by LSM Lindsay Cerajewski. Radio-Info has more coverage here.
Tartaglia will report to former Clear Channel Director of Sales Steven Kritzman, who joined Pandora earlier this month as Senior VP of Advertising Sales (RAIN coverage here). MOG COMING TO BMW DASHBOARDS, BOXEE TV DEVICEMusic subscription service MOG is coming to BMW dashboards, the carmaker recently announced. MOG will first appear in the new BMW 6 Series Coupe. The carmaker already offers integration with Pandora and TuneIn Radio, while its Mini line already supports MOG. CNET has more on the story here.
