PANDORA FOUNDER SEES SHORT AUDIO ADS AS THE FUTURE FOR MOBILE NET RADIO: The Pandora iPhone application is reportedly being downloaded at a rate of 40,000 per day and will soon be on 1 million iPhone devices, creating a new listening platform where visual ads are no longer suitable. Pandora founder Tim Westergren revealed that the service will perhaps swap traditional banner ads with 10-second audio “messages” from sponsors. “The science of mobile advertising needs to develop fast if the early promise of the iPhone is not to be squandered.” For more, read the Financial Times’ coverage here.

DUAL SAT-CASTER RADIOS MAY NOT BE OUT UNTIL NEXT YEAR: Consumers may have to wait until next year to hear the new programming from the merged Sirius XM satellite radio provider, as dual-mode radios won’t be available for nine months. Analysts expected a dual-mode device soon after the merger closed, however, a Sirius spokesman reports that the companies actually anticipated a year delay all along. Sirius XM CEO Mel Karmazin also revealed that it may be three years before the dual-mode radios make their way into car dashboards. As CNN notes, “In three years, a lot can happen in terms of innovations in car entertainment,” including Internet radio-enabling universal Wi-Fi access (see Clearwire story below), and in-car hi-speed Internet (RAIN coverage here). However, in the next three months Sirius XM will release an a la carte radio which will allow users to “select” programming from current Sirius and XM offerings. For more, read CNN’s coverage here.

BEASLEY TO USE ANDO MEDIA’S NET RADIO SERVICES: Beasley Broadcast Group will be using Ando Media’s online audience measurement services, including the company’s Webcast Metrics, Ad Injector, and PodFuse (podcast measurement) services. For more, read the official press release here.

KURTZMAN NEW CHIEF AT COLEMAN INSIGHTS: Media research firm Coleman Insights has named Warren Kurtzman as the new president and chief operating officer, taking over the position from founder Jon Coleman. Kurtzman was previously a vice president at the company. Jon Coleman will continue serving at Coleman Insights as chairman and chief executive officer.
