TRITON HIRES FORMER CLEAR CHANNEL TECH VP PARSONS: Triton Media has hired Brian Parsons, former VP of Technology for Clear Channel Radio, as the company’s EVP/Technology. Parsons (right) was also President of nTunes and was a Director for Jacor. “We are thrilled to welcome Brian to the Triton team,” said Mike Agovino, Triton media co-founder/COO. RAMSEY: PODCAST GROWTH RATESHOULD GIVE US PAUSE: Researcher/consultant Mark Ramsey makes a case for podcasting’s slow growth in his Hear 2.0 blog — a counter-position to Edison Media Research Tom Webster’s argument yesterday (RAIN coverage here). Ramsey discusses five elements to podcasting’s sluggish growth, including a lack of discovery-based initiatives in iTunes’ podcast directory. “Considering radio produces audio entertainment we would be foolish to avoid podcasting. But the fact that podcasting has not swept the audience the way other trends have should give us pause,” he writes. Read more of Ramsey’s analysis here.

AM SPORTS RADIO JOCK TACKLES NET RADIO: Former Chicago sports radio personality Mike North, waiting out a non-compete after walking away from CBS’s WSCR-AM 670, says he will host a daily Internet radio program. The Mike North Webio Show will begin on September 8 from the website of popular Chicago chain restaurant Wildfire (here"), broadcasting mornings 9-11AM with show downloads available later in the day. North’s non-compete agreement, reportedly, doesn’t include Internet radio. “Radio is still very viable, but the Web is the next big thing,” North said. “I don’t even know how to turn [a computer] on, but I know how to make money off it.” For more, read the Chicago Tribune’s coverage here.

STREAMGUYS LAUNCH REVENUESTREAM: Streaming media company StreamGuys has launched RevenueStream, a service that allows broadcasters to deliver premium content to subscription-paying users. For more, read RBR’s coverage here.
