NAB’S FIRST NEW MEDIA SUPERSESSION BRINGS LIGHT TO CLOUDY GATHERING: While the overall air of the convention has been somewhat somber, the NAB Radio Show’s first-ever “New Media Executives SuperSession” bucked that trend with optimism fueled by innovative thinking and expert input, says RAIN publisher Kurt Hanson, reporting live from Austin, TX. Saga executive VP Steve Goldstein moderated the “big-room” session; panelists included CBS Radio Digital Media & Integrated Marketing president David Goodman, Triton Media COO Mike Agovino, Emmis Interactive co-pres. Deb Esayian, and ESPN Digital Media VP/Digital Partnerships & Sales Development Marc Horine. What’s more, a full 15 different NAB sessions focused specifically on new media — hopefully evidence that radio is ready to establish a foothold for its future. Look for a full report from Kurt in RAIN next week.

AOL MUSIC TOP-RANKED MUSIC WEBSITE IN AUGUST: AOL Music nabbed the No. 1 slot in comScore’s August music website rankings, attracting more than 23 million unique hits. Trailing AOL Music was MTV Networks (17.7 million uniques), followed by Yahoo! Music (17.6 million uniques), MySpace Music (17.4 million uniques), and the ARTISTdirect Network (14.5 million uniques). Overall, comScore reports a 11.2% increase in unique visitors to AOL Music, and a 33% jump in page views. Note that while AOL Music and Yahoo! Music are webcasters, these rankings are based on site visits, not stream listening. For more, read RBR’s coverage here.

CC ONLINE & RADIO ADDS 2 EXECS: Clear Channel Online Music & Radio has brought on Josh Klenert, who was previously serving at Billboard Magazine, as VP/Creative Director, and Michael Jackel as SVP/Digital Sales. Jackel was previously GSM of Clear Channel Top 40 KIIS-FM/Los Angeles. For more, read Radio Ink’s coverage here.

PROGRAMMERS DISCUSS STATION SITES ON R&R PANEL: Rhythmic format radio programmers on a panel agreed “that (online) streaming is a necessity (for radio) and no longer a luxury” during an R&R Convention discussion yesterday called “If You Build It…”. As R&R reports, Sam Elliot from KTTB/Minneapolis, in fact, agreed that station web sites are so important that they will eventually be the main product for broadcasters’ brands. Also a consensus conclusion: streaming video is huge for bringing listeners to the site. Panel moderator Chase, OM at Emmis/Austin, asked “if it is now understood that on-air talent are required to feed Web content daily, and that was a unanimous ‘yes’ as well,” writes R&R. “In fact, some contract language now dictates that jocks will regularly blog to provide a tangible extension of their show.” Read R&R’s coverage here.

NET RADIO GUIDE RADIOTIME ACQUIRES HD CONTENT FINDER RADIOSHERPA: Dallas-based RadioTime, which provides a guide to finding and listening to Internet radio, has acquired RadioSherpa, which manages a real-time program guide for New York-, Boston-, and San Francisco-based HD Radio outlets. “RadioSherpa’s real-time song identification technology further enhances the RadioTime user experience by enabling listeners to quickly find their favorite songs currently playing on any station,” remarked Bill Moore, CEO, RadioTime, in a press release.

  1. I love myspace, you could say I’m a “myspace addict” but one thing that really disapoints me is there music players. They only let you put 1 song on your profile page, now I don’t know about you but I write alot on my myspace so by the time your done reading everything I wrote, the songs already played like 3 times in a row. I searched around but couldn’t fine any music players good enough to go on my myspace. Ethier the code didn’t work or the colours were really ugly. Than I heard about this free site called “www.hypster.com”! It’s easy to make an account and add music to your playlists. You can upload your own or take from other users playlists. Not only that but, you can customize your music player to fit your profile colours! So check it out you won’t regret it! www.hypster.com
