LAST.FM FOR iPHONE UPDATE HASBIG IMPROVEMENTS

Last.fm recently updated its application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices, with changes CNET finds “makes the user experience more intuitive and attractive.” Certainly, the first version of Last.fm’s application was nothing special, especially when compared to Pandora’s sleek interface. Now it’s at least as slick as Pandora’s, with Last.fm adding sleek menus, intuitive controls and an overall theme that packs a lot of options into one screen while still keeping in line with Apple’s motif. NPR LAUNCHES NEWS AGGREGATION/SOCIAL NETWORK APP

Ars Technica reports on NPR’s new social application, calling it “one part Facebook and one part Digg with… a focus on fostering positive conversation.” The “Digg” part collects the most-viewed and most recommended NPR stories which can be “voted up” by readers. Ars Technica says the social aspect (or “Facebook” element) is not quite as powerful as it could be, as “there are no tools for automatically finding other people you may already know.” Nonetheless, the reviewer (as well as NPR listeners) calls “NPR’s first attempt at infusing its content with social networking goodness is an overall success.” Read the Ars Technica review here.
