RAIN 10/10: Clear Channel launches an iPhone app of their own ·Oct 10, 10:31 AM CLEAR CHANNEL LAUNCHES THEIR OWN iPHONE APPClear Channel has launched iPhone application iHeartRadio, an extension of Clear Channel’s music site iHeartMusic. This comes a matter of days after the launch of Weather Underground’s WunderRadio (RAIN coverage here). iHeartRadio currently only streams 10 terrestrial stations, as well as Internet streams erockster and Pride Radio. As Media Week reports (here), an internal memo from CC Online Music and Radio president Evan Harrison revealed that new stations will be added each week and a new version will arrive within the year. The application is free and features album art, lyrics and streaming ads measured by Ando. As we reported yesterday in RAIN, industry expert Mark Ramsey asked, “Do I want to download the app from AOL Radio that has only the CBS stations…or the app that has EVERY radio station?” Perhaps the WunderRadio service obviates the need for iHeartRadio too, and Clear Channel’s had the misfortune of bad timing in releasing this application.
