AD MONITORING TECH CAN TRACK CONSUMERS ACROSS MEDIA

A research firm called Integrated Media Measurement has a new technology it says can measure consumers’ exposure to ads across nearly any electronic medium via the consumer’s cellphone.

The company’s software, installed on consumer panelists’ cellphones, monitors audio from television, radio, computer, mobile phone, DVD, and movie theater ads. The audio is converted to a digital code that’s uploaded to the company database, which determines what ad the user was exposed to. The Wall Street Journal has more here.

EDISON RECOMMENDS GETTING FLUENT IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE, LIKE HTML

Want to make yourself more valuable around the radio station (or, if the worst happens, more marketable)? Edison Media’s Tom Webster, in The Infinite Dial blog, recommends (here) broadcasters learn HTML, PHP and XML. “Learning the language of the web is de rigeur for stretching your resources and removing the barriers between the great content you have and getting that content to your listeners on the web.”

STREAMAUDIO DEBUTSMULTI-FORMAT STREAMING

Radio streaming solutions provider StreamAudio says a new “Multi-Format streaming” feature will enable clients to simultaneously reach listeners on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms as well as on mobile devices
like the iPhone, Treo, and Blackberry — without the need for additional hardware or software.

The option gives stations the ability to stream MP3, Windows Media, AAC, AAC Plus, and OGG formats simultaneously. StreamAudio president Darren Harle explained, “Only a single computer is required at the station. This hardware/software system sends a single ‘source stream’ to StreamAudio’s data centers where the transcoding to multiple formats is performed.” Read the official press release here=.

  1. Unless the stream your sending to StreamAudio is uncompressed PCM or some other lossless format, I’d say “no thanks” to this. My guess is it feeds a 128k mp3 stream and they transcode that, ruining the station’s quality.
