RAIN 10/14: Tech firm develops cross-media ad monitoring using audio, cellphones ·Oct 14, 11:19 AM AD MONITORING TECH CAN TRACK CONSUMERS ACROSS MEDIAA research firm called Integrated Media Measurement has a new technology it says can measure consumers’ exposure to ads across nearly any electronic medium via the consumer’s cellphone.
The company’s software, installed on consumer panelists’ cellphones, monitors audio from television, radio, computer, mobile phone, DVD, and movie theater ads. The audio is converted to a digital code that’s uploaded to the company database, which determines what ad the user was exposed to. The Wall Street Journal has more here. STREAMAUDIO DEBUTS “MULTI-FORMAT STREAMING”Radio streaming solutions provider StreamAudio says a new “Multi-Format streaming” feature will enable clients to simultaneously reach listeners on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms as
well as on mobile deviceslike the iPhone, Treo, and Blackberry — without the need for additional hardware or software. The option gives stations the ability to stream MP3, Windows Media, AAC, AAC Plus, and OGG formats simultaneously. StreamAudio president Darren Harle explained, “Only a single computer is required at the station. This hardware/software system sends a single ‘source stream’ to StreamAudio’s data centers where the transcoding to multiple formats is performed.” Read the official press release here=. Unless the stream your sending to StreamAudio is uncompressed PCM or some other lossless format, I’d say “no thanks” to this. My guess is it feeds a 128k mp3 stream and they transcode that, ruining the station’s quality.
