RAIN 10/28: Slipstream offers online holiday music to radio; Sept. Webcast Metrics ·Oct 28, 10:45 AM SLIPSTREAM TO OFFER MULTICHANNEL ONLINE CHRISTMAS MUSIC STATIONS TO RADIOSlipstream Radio, the new initiative from RAIN‘s Kurt Hanson, Paul Maloney, and Ralph Sledge which builds branded Internet radio channels for broadcasters, announced today it will offer local-station-branded personalizable, multichannel online Christmas music radio stations for the Christmas 2008 season.
The channels will be delivered via a custom-designed player crafted to match the client radio station’s look-and-feel, with a full complement of the sponsoring station’s jingles, sweepers, promos, and other branding elements. Each channel can be personalized by the listener (including artist deselects and “skip” functionality.) Broadcasters may choose up to 12 channels from Slipstream’s 35 available Christmas-themed channels (here), which represent a wide variety of genres and styles. Those channels, when made available last year through AccuRadio.com, attracted over 500,000 unique listeners and over 4.5 million hours of listening. Slipstream CEO Hanson commented, “From a programming point of view, all signs point to this being a huge year for holiday music. And it’s also a challenging quarter from a sales perspective, meaning that sales staffs are going to need unique and timely features to go out and pitch. Slipstream’s Christmas music package should be perfect for both purposes.” Slipstream Radio’s exclusive sales representative to radio stations is Triton Media Group. RATINGS SHOW MOST WEBCASTERS MOVING BACK TOWARDS PRE-SUMMER LISTENING LEVELSCBS Radio held steady in the top spot in Ando Media’s Webcast Metrics Audience Ratings for September, but a good number of webcasters in the following slots narrowed the gap somewhat. Clear Channel, Digitally Imported, Citadel, 977Music and 1.FM all showed some significant growth in their online audiences from August. However, many top webcasters are still not back to April 2008 audience sizes (We’ve noticed that most webcasters experience “summer doldrums” in which listening drops over warm-weather months, as people vacation, etc.).
Fox News Radio debuted at #19 in both charts in September (bumping Lincoln Financial out of the M-F Top 20 and Saga out of the M-Su chart). September’s Top 20 charts are below. It’s important to keep in mind that Webcast metrics is a very small picture of the internet radio world, 181.fm is not listed along with about 25 other fairly large networks.
