VOTE FOR THE BEST U.S. RADIO WEBSITE

Before casting your vote at the ballot box next Tuesday, cast your vote today for the best radio website in America. Mel Taylor Media, a local media online revenue consultant, narrowed down nominations sent in by readers of Radio Sales Today to 5 sites based on content, design, and ease of use.

The sites up for vote are: 97.1FM Los Angeles, FM100 Salt Lake City, KTIC 840AM, MyNorthwest.com (home to Seattle’s 97.3FM and 770AM KTTH) and Topeka Radio Advertising. Cast your vote here before midnight on Monday, Nov. 3. The results will be announced next Friday in Radio Sales Today. Read more about the competition here.

ONLINE AD NETWORKS “IN SERIOUS TROUBLE

The economic downturn in recent months has taken its toll on online ad-networks. The Wall Street Journal reports (here) that online spending has slowed as media buyers tighten their budgets and venture-capital funding shrinks.

As a result, ad networks JellyCloud and Adzilla have already closed, while other companies like AdBrite have cut back on their workforce. Even AOL’s ad platform is reportedly experiencing “softening in major ad categories.” Ross Sandler, an Internet analyst at RBC Capital Markets, said that online ad networks “are in severe trouble and could be closing their doors in the back half of this year or the beginning of ’09. People are bracing for the worst.”

SONOS UPGRADES INTERNET RADIO OFFERINGS

Sonos users will now be able to access over 15,000 Internet radio stations, including Last.fm and a free version of Pandora, thanks to a new upgrade. Sonos has also upgraded the webcast directory navigation, adding search capabilities based on genre, artist, country and more. The update is available to Sonos users as a free download. Sonos also launched a remote control application for iPhone and iPod Touch devices earlier this week (RAIN coverage here). For more on the upgrade, read Twice’s coverage here.

NAB CHIEF OPTIMISTIC ABOUT DEFENDING AGAINST PERFORMANCE ROYALTY NEXT YEAR
