They say, “as the internet loosens music’s geographical ties, radio stations should be run by program directors and DJs who live in the communities where they broadcast.”
The FMC would like to see broadband access expanded, radio ownership diversified, low-power FM developed and greater oversight in payola regulations. SIRIUS XM FACES “BIG THREAT” IN INTERNET RADIOChicago Tribune columnist Eric Benderoff ponders (here) whether Sirius XM’s $1 billion of debt or the “big threat” of Internet radio is the more daunting challenge. “Internet radio, at some point, could pose a competitive threat,” said James Goss, a Chicago Barrington Research analyst.
CPB ACCEPTING DIGITAL RADIO GRANT APPLICATIONSThe Corporation for Public Broadcasting has begun accepting applications for grants from noncommercial radio stations who want to convert to digital.
