Various factors have combined to significantly hurt year-to-year sales of recorded music, and major record companies are reeling.

SEC ACCUSES CUBAN OF INSIDER TRADINGThe U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is accusing Broadcast.com founder (and Dallas Mavericks owner) Mark Cuban of insider trading. The SEC charges that Cuban dumped 600,000 shares of Mamma.com Inc. (an Internet search company) stock in 2004 after he learned it was raising money by issuing more shares. Cuban supposedly learned about the new issue plans when Mamma.com officials asked him to participate on the condition he keep it confidential. Instead, the SEC says, Cuban ordered his broker to sell his entire stake. He allegedly avoided losses of at least $750,000 this way. Read more in the Chicago Sun-Times here.
PANDORA, ENERGIZER LAUNCH MUSIC FORUMPandora, in partnership with Energizer, has launched the Energizer Music Forum where listeners can discuss the latest in music. It also provides Energizer the opportunity to reach listeners, as the forum will be branded with the company’s logo (and an Energizer Bunny or two).
