RAIN 12/22: Net radio "best of both worlds" says ABC News ·Dec 22, 10:12 AM SAYS NET RADIO TRUMPS SATELLITE AND HD FOR VARIETY AND AFFORDABILITYWhere satellite radio offers plenty of content but for a price, and HD radio is free but lacks variety, Internet radio is “the best of both worlds,” says ABC News’ Ross Rubin (here). Webcasts hold an advantage over other radio services with “a virtually unlimited selection of genres, most of it delivered free of charge.” Rubin goes on to describe how high royalty rates are holding Internet radio back, as is the lack of in-car penetration where traditional radio still reigns. “In an economy that is leaving consumers hungry for entertainment without a lot to spend on it, Internet radio can further stretch dollars being spent on broadband. But business model pressures and technological limitations may place limits on where it can reach and for how long.” LAST.FM EXPANDS ITS MOBILE REACHEuropean mobile carrier Vodafone added Last.fm’s Audioscrobbler service to its Nokia handset models last week. The N95, N96, N78 and 6210 can all access Last.fm’s service, monitoring music being played on the phone. Last.fm was also recently added to T-Mobile’s Mobile Jukebox service and to 3 UK’s INQ handset. Read more at MocoNews.net here.
