RAIN 12/23: Holiday-themed broadcast royalty feud continues; Pandora on Windows Mobile ·Dec 23, 10:48 AM QUIPS FILLED WITH HOLIDAY SPIRITRadio and music labels have continued their holiday-themed exchange over a broadcast radio performance royalty (RAIN coverage here). Last week, musicFirst sent an email to supporters and the media, backing the royalty to the tune of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” In the poem, NAB president/CEO David Rehr is given some Scrooge-like qualities while radio is accused of hypocrisy (”‘We’ll say we don’t want those foreign-owned labels ‘round here; But let’s count our ad money from the foreign owned beer’”).The NAB’s Dennis Wharton responded, saying the proposed royalty from foreign-owned labels “would cost America’s hometown radio stations thousands of jobs…If successful, RIAA’s campaign will mean a perpetual blue Christmas for local radio, and the end-game loser will be artists who benefit from the unparalleled promotional value of free radio airplay.” For more, read R&R’s coverage here.
