RAIN 12/29: Philadelphia papers launch local music website ·Dec 29, 09:57 AM SITE FEATURES STREAMING MUSIC, FREE DOWNLOADSThe Philadelphia Daily News and The Philadelphia Inquirer have launched Phrequency.com, a site dedicated to the Philadelphia music scene. The site features news, reviews, and events listings. Music from Philadelphia bands is streamed through the Phrequency Player. Users can register for an account on the site, then become fans of bands and download free music. Phrequency covers eight genres including punk, folk and R&B, and has collected content from 3,000 area bands. It even has sub-sites devoted to jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music. WIRED COLUMNIST PUTS IN-DASH CAR NET RADIO ON 2009 GADGET WISH LISTWired columnist Steven Levy is wishing for an in-dash car Internet radio player in 2009. More specifically, he’d like to see one at this year’s CES. “A few football fields’ worth of CES booth space is typically occupied by automotive electronics,” he writes (here). “But so far I haven’t seen the perfect product: an in-dash Internet music player that streams any Internet radio station or music service (don’t forget podcasts).” Also on his list is one laptop per child, a $99 Blu-ray player and an e-book “Kindle killer.”iPHONE GOES ON SALE AT WAL-MART Apple’s iPhone went on sale at Wal-Mart locations this Sunday. Speculation about the discount retailer carrying the mobile device began in November, but the rumored $99 price tag did not materialize. ASUS INTERNET RADIO TABLETOP PLAYER FEATURES iPOD-DOCK ASUS’ AIR3 tabletop Wi-Fi Internet radio player isn’t exactly revolutionary, but does feature a convenient iPod dock. Sound quality enthusiasts may be drawn to AIR3’s Texas Instruments Class-D amplifier and HDSS (High Definition Sound Standard) certified drivers as well.
