NPR LETS LISTENERS BUILD PERSONALIZED PODCAST FEEDS

NPR has launched “Mix Your Own Podcast,” a service that lets listeners build a personalized podcast feed.

Listeners create their own podcast feed by searching and adding content based on topics, stations, or reporters at NPR’s podcast site (here). Listeners can then subscribe to their feed using iTunes. Any NPR podcast that includes the selected content is then automatically added to the stream. Read more at Radio Ink here.

INDY LATINO RADIO STATION TO USE WEB TO FILL VOID OF DEPARTING UNIVISION

The departure of Univision in Indianapolis may cause an influx of local media trying to attract Spanish-language audiences once dominated by Univision. Indianapolis TV station and Univision affiliate WIIH will stop broadcasting Univision content after Thursday. Internet and radio may make the biggest gains. “The Latino community is open to messages even on the Internet. The reality is that they are there. It’s exciting to see what’s going to open up,” said advertising expert Kathy Cabello. One station, Radio Latina WEDJ-FM (107.1), plans on using the Internet to fill Univision’s gap by updating its website with guest experts on health, education, finances and immigration. “Many of those people that are doing those types of promotions in Univision will need a new home and, ideally, many of them will look to us,” said general manager Russ Dodge. POCKET TUNES LAUNCHES iPHONE APP

Pocket Tunes, a media player for mobile phones, has launched an iPhone application called Pocket Tunes Radio. The application includes the Internet radio features of Pocket Tunes. It caught the attention of RedEye’s iPhone blogger Scott Kleinberg, who writes (here) that Pocket Tunes Radio’s $10 price tag, “seems a little steep but in reality, it’s really not when you consider what you get from it.” The app comes with a large library of Internet radio stations built in, but also lets users add their own streams. It also comes with it’s own web browser, meaning iPhone users don’t have to quit Pocket Tunes Radio to get online and find their favorite streams. Kleinberg also found Pocket Tunes Radio’s sound quality superior to other webcast apps thanks to aacPlus support.

SLACKER ADDS NEW PRICING TIER

Slacker Internet radio has debuted Radio Plus, a new service featuring unlimited song skipping and no banner or in-stream ads. Listeners can also place an unlimited amount of song requests with Radio Plus, which costs $3.99 a month. Head to Slacker’s site here for more information.
