RAIN 01/30: Webcasters get holiday bump in December Ando rankings ·Jan 30, 12:48 PM CBS, ACCU, EMF SEE SIGNIFICANT AQH HIKESMost top webcasters experienced a boost in December according to Ando Media’s Webcast Metrics, likely driven by holiday programming. Top-ranked CBS rose from 117,942 AQH to 122,590 in December (6AM to Midnight, Monday-Sunday), while Clear Channel rose from 78,233 to 80,897 AQH. Most webcasters held their November positions as well, but exceptions include AccuRadio rising to the 7 spot with 13,439 AQH and EMF Corporate jumping to 12 from 14.The December Webcast Metrics Top 20 charts are below. TIME COVERS 3 INTERNET RADIOSInternet radio players appear to be making strides into the mainstream, as Time Magazine features a roundup of three such devices. The Logitech Squeezebox Boom (pictured left), Roberts Stream 202 and the Pure Evoke Flow all caught Time’s attention. Time especially liked the Squeezebox Boom’s “high-performance speakers” and compatibility with Last.fm and Pandora. The battery-powered Roberts Stream 202’s portability and the Pure Evoke Flow’s intelligent search function earned them points as well. Read the full article from Time here.
INTERNET RADIO “WINS HANDS DOWN” OVER DAB, DIGITAL RADIO TECH EDITOR SAYS TO PURE DIGITALLast week, Pure Digital told Tech Radar that they thought DAB would be more successful than Internet radio in the near future (RAIN coverage here). Editor of Digital Radio Tech Steve Green responded in an interview of his own with Tech Radar (here). “One thing that Pure Digital’s version of ‘the future of radio’ conveniently failed to mention was that the audio quality on internet radio is either already far better than on DAB, or it will be in the near future,” he states. “Internet radio has the big advantage that the streams can use modern audio codecs…whereas DAB is stuck using the prehistoric MP2 codec.” Green also says Internet radio offers more variety than DAB. “Internet radio wins hands down on choice.”TWO RENDA BROADCAST RADIO STREAMS GO SILENT Renda broadcasting has shut down the streams of two of its Pittsburgh properties, blaming online performance royalties.
