AWARD-WINNING SINGER/SONGWRITER GABY MORENO TO PERFORM AT RAIN SUMMIT COCKTAIL PARTY

This year’s RAIN Internet Radio Summit, coming up on Monday (4/20) in Las Vegas, will feature keynote speeches from CBS Radio’s David Goodman and Pandora’s Joe Kennedy, as well as panels and presentations from executives from all corners of the Internet radio and digital media industry. It’s virtually guaranteed to be our best Summit yet! Click here to see the impressive speaker lineup and here to see the full day’s agenda.

The RAIN Summit 2009 will culminate in a sophisticated poolside cocktail party in the Renaissance Hotel. Acclaimed Guatemalan singer/songwriter Gaby Moreno will be performing with her band during the evening’s cocktail party. The soulful artist won the John Lennon Songwriting contest in 2006 and recently made history as the first Latin category winner to take home the “Maxell Song of the Year” Award for her song “Escondidos.” Her debut album, Still the Unknown, was released last year. Find out more about Moreno at her MySpace page here.

For those still looking to register, we have a variety of prices available for you. We’re still offering our two-for-one deal on registrations, as well as discounts for educators, students, out-of-work radio professionals, and $19 S.R.O. tickets. Register for the Summit here.

We hope to see you there!

RAIN COCKTAIL PARTY REGISTRATIONS AVAILABLE

If you’re busy Monday in Las Vegas during the day but might like to join us for our two-hour open-bar cocktail party — which looks like it might be the best cocktail party at the NAB Show this year, since a lot of the usual parties aren’t happening at this year’s show — we’ve got a special $18 registration here. INTERNET RADIO WEEKLY LISTENERSHIP UP 9 MILLION IN ONE YEAR

A new study from Arbitron and Edison Research, titled The Infinite Dial 2009: Radio’s Digital Platforms, has found that Internet radio’s weekly audience is currently 42 million, up from 33 million in 2008. That includes 20% of all 25-to-54 year-olds and 17% of people older than 12. The study also found that 54% of Internet radio listeners are employed full-time and 37% have a college degree. “Web radio is one of the bright spots; dollars are migrating there,” said said Horizon Media senior VP/Director of Corporate Research Brad Adgate. “The future for Internet radio is perhaps brighter than over-the-air radio.”

Other discoveries by the study include that 27 million Americans age 12 and older have listened to a podcast in the past month, while the use of social networking sites and iPods has become “nearly ubiquitous.” In fact, 32% of those between the ages of 18 and 24 say they are spending less time with over-the-air radio because of time spent with iPods and other MP3 players. The study recommends “audio content providers should not ignore the explosion of online video or social networking,” and that all media should accelerate their presence on mobile phones. DAVE MATTHEWS DEBUTS NEW SINGLE ON PANDORA

The Dave Matthews Band has debuted its new single “Funny The Way It Is” on Pandora, with the full album “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” not far behind, making this the first time an artist has used Pandora to launch a new single and album. Pandora users can listen to the new song on-demand from a specially-skinned site here. “We are always looking for new, innovative ways to bring our music directly to the band’s fans,” said Bruce Flohr of the Dave Matthews Band’s management company Red Light Management. “Pandora’s personalized radio is a great way to do that.” For more, read Pandora’s press release here.

MACROVISION ACQUIRES METADATA COMPANY MUZE

DRM firm Macrovision has agreed to acquire metadata company Muze. Macrovision purchased another metadata giant, the All Music Guide, in late 2007. Macrovision told Wired.com after purchasing All Music that the digital rights management (DRM) chips they install in DVD players, set-top boxes, and other devices can also be used to recommend content. “In other words, the recommendations we’re already used to seeing online and in software will start appearing in formerly ‘dumb’ hardware,” through the use of metadata. With the three large metadata companies now acquired (the third, Gracenote, was acquired by Sony last April), “any company involved with media sales will now face higher premiums, because Macrovision and Sony have cornered the market for metadata.” Read Wired’s full coverage here.
