The RAIN Internet Radio Summit 2009 is set to begin today at 10:30 a.m. (PDT) in Las Vegas! RAIN’s annual summit is being held at the Renaissance Hotel adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center and, for the first time, is an official co-located event of the NAB Show. With over two dozen speakers and a packed schedule of panels, it’s sure to be one of the best RAIN summits yet. Here’s the rundown of this year’s summit:

The day begins with a presentation of Edison Research’s “The Infinite Dial” study from Edison’s VP, Strategy & Programming Tom Webster. CBS Radio’s President of Digital Media and Marketing David Goodman will then deliver the first keynote speech, discussing the philosophy behind CBS Radio’s interactive and streaming initiatives.

Triton Media’s Billy Freund, Katz 360’s Brian Benedik, TargetSpot’s Doug Perlson, Pandora’s Cheryl Lucanegro, and Google Audio’s Jag Duggal will then discuss revenue development in a panel moderated by Audio4Cast’s Jennifer Lane. Following that discussion, a panel of Radio Paradise’s Bill Goldsmith, Audiovox’s Todd Beals, and MiRoamer’s Paul Ramsden will discuss Internet radio devices in a panel moderated by RAIN Editor Paul Maloney.

Following lunch, Ando president Robert Maccini will share some of his firm’s latest findings in the second research presentation. Speakers will then address performance royalties, including presentations from Davis Wright Tremaine’s David Oxenford, Citadel Broadcasting’s John Rosso, Media Unbound’s Michael Papish, and hopefully either John Simson or Mike Huppe from SoundExchange.

Pandora CEO Joe Kennedy will then deliver a keynote presentation on “Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” followed by a second devices panel focusing on mobile phones. That panel will feature RadioTime’s Dan Halyburton, Radiolicious’s TJ Lambert, Slacker’s Allen Baum, AirKast’s Simon Moy, and Bonneville International’s Russell Banz. It will be moderated by Ando Media’s Paul Krasinski.

Then, in a just-added discussion, GOOM Radio CEO Rob Williams (pictured left) will speak about the company’s direction after receiving $16 million in funding. Jacobs Media’s Paul Jacobs will follow and present some of the firm’s research. Cox Radio Interactive’s Gregg Lindahl will then moderate a panel on revenue development featuring Triton Media’s Mike Agovino, Salem Communications’ Rick Killingsworth, and MojoPages’s Jon Carder, among others. RAIN publisher and AccuRadio CEO Kurt Hanson (pictured right) will then moderate a discussion on the future of radio, including panelists Live365’s Johnie Floater and Digitally Imported’s Ari Shohat.

Hanson will then deliver his annual “State of the Industry” keynote address to close out the official agenda. Time may be left to wrap-up, and of course the day will be capped off by a poolside cocktail party.

BRS MEDIA TO OFFER DOT RADIO DOMAIN NAMES

BRS Media will be offering .radio domain names soon, the company announced today. The company began offering .FM and .AM domain names during the NAB Show in 1998. The company will not just be offering the new domain names to AM/FM stations, but also to streaming and new media sites as well as stations outside the U.S. BRS Media is sponsoring the RAIN Internet Radio Summit cocktail party this evening in Las Vegas, “another sign that [George T. Bundy, Chairman & CEO is] actively soliciting business away from the AM and FM space,” says Tom Taylor. In its press release, BRS Media said it “intends to secure, market and manage the ‘.Radio’ generic top-level domain.” Find the press release here.

CLEAR CHANNEL ADDS ONLINE, HD CHANNELS IN EFFORT TO IMPROVE QUALITY

“Central” to Clear Channel’s recently announced plan to “improve program quality for all day parts,” is an expansion of online and on-demand channel offerings. The new channels will center on a music genre (Country Road and Soft Rock for example) or on-air personalities (Kidd Kraddick and Lex & Terry). Clear Channel’s press release reports that the new channels will be available online on local station websites, on Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio mobile application and as HD2 multicasts. WEBBY AWARD NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED

The nominees for this year’s Webby Awards have been announced. Comment

  1. BRS is going to come up with $185,000, plus $25,000 per year to manage .radio? Wow. Too bad if the land grab of new Top Level Domains happens, it will probably lead to mass consumer confusion.
