RAIN 4/27: Webcast Metrics to measure Pandora listening ·Apr 27, 10:57 AM PANDORA’S AUDIENCE WILL DOUBLE ANDO’S MEASURED LISTENINGAndo Media’s Webcast Metrics will now measure listening for Pandora Internet radio streams. Ando says the addition of Pandora to the roster will effectively double the number of listeners the service tallies.
An Ando Media press release did not indicate when Pandora listening measurements will debut in its monthly reports. The most recent Webcast Metrics ratings, for March, are here. Pandora is generally considered to be the most-listened-to “pureplay” Internet radio provider. The service boasts 26 million registered Paul Krasinski, Ando Media EVP, said in a press release, “With Pandora now being measured through Ando, using our Webcast Metrics platform, advertisers will not only get a truer picture of just how large the internet radio audience is, they will now be able to access those listeners.” LIVE365 LAUNCHES iPHONE APPLive365 is now offering an application for iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The application accesses the network’s thousands of Internet radio channels. While the application itself is free, a VIP subscription is required to continue listening to stations after a 5-day “test drive” period. Users can set presets and email current tracks to friends. The network notes in its press release that a Blackberry application is also coming soon.
NEW TECH CAN SQUEEZE 100 DVDs-WORTH OF DATA ON A SINGLE DISCG.E. says it has developed a new digital storage technology that can fit the equivalent of 100 DVDs on to a standard-size disc. The New York Times reports the breakthrough technology uses holographic storage, which can “pack data far more densely than conventional optical technology, used in DVDs and the newer, high-capacity Blu-ray discs, in which information is stored as a pattern of laser-etched marks across the surface of a disc.” The new tech is only at the “laboratory success” stage for now, and has yet to be made to work in mass-produced consumer products. TWELVE ONLINE STREAMS MAKE THE BOOKS IN PPM MARCH MEASUREMENTSA dozen online radio streams “made the books” in Arbitron’s PPM measurements for March. That includes KIOI in San Jose with an AQH of 1.2 and Los Angeles’ KOST with 0.8 AQH. Other online streams include that from WVEE in Atlanta, Chicago’s WLS and WVAZ, WXYT in Detroit, KTBZ from Houston, WKTU and WPLJ in Middlesex, Nassau-Suffolk’s WBLI, San Jose’s KSFO and Washington D.C. station WRQX. Tom Taylor notes that WKTU, a New York station, actually made the books for Middlesex. “In fact, no New York station had its stream make the grade in the Big Apple itself.” For more, check out RBR’s coverage here.AIRSTREAM 10 NET RADIO DEBUTS AT GADGET SHOW LIVEMonitor Audio presented its new Airstream 10 tabletop DAB, AM/FM and Internet radio at the Gadget Show Live 2009 in the UK last weekend.
