RAIN 5/18: Slacker raises nearly $10m in venture funding ·May 18, 11:49 AM APPROACHES $70 MILLION IN OVERALL FUNDINGSlacker has raised approximately $9.7 million so far in the Internet radio service’s current venture round, according to a recent regulatory filing (found here). Among the new investors were Sevin Rosen Funds and Centennial Investors. That brings Slacker pretty close to its goal of $10.2 million and raises its total funding close to $70 million. CBS RADIO, LAST.FM STREAMS TO BE AVAILABLE THROUGH MSPOT’S MOBILE RADIO SERVICEMobile media company mSpot has partnered with CBS Radio and Last.fm to incorporate their streams in with mSpot’s mobile radio line-up. More than 100 local radio streams from CBS will be available to AT&T Wireless mSpot users, along with Last.fm’s personalized radio streams. mSpot Radio is available to AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Bell Mobility, Telus, U.S. Cellular and Boost users. NYT: THIS SUMMER MAY BE A “BLOCKBUSTER” FOR MOBILE PHONES As Internet radio continues to migrate onto mobile devices, the mobile industry is set for a “blockbuster” summer. The New York Times notes (here) that Palm’s new Pre smartphone should hit shelves the first week of June, while Apple will unveil its updated iPhone not long after. Meanwhile, new phones sporting Google’s Android OS and the new Windows Mobile 7 will be arriving as well. All in all, this summer “could be potentially the most exciting time in this market,” as Charles Wolf, a cellphone industry analyst with Needham & Company said.
