COMPANY ANNOUNCES LISTENER SURVEY WITH ANDO, UPDATES NET PLAYER

Clear Channel delivered a series of updates today, touting online listener growth and announcing the completion of a listener survey with Ando Media. 22 million people tune in to Clear Channel stations online every month according to Ominture, Inc. Clear Channel said this online audience adds an extra 15% of listenership to some terrestrial stations.

Clear Channel and Ando Media also announced the completion of a listener survey for advertisers, coined The Demographic Lab. The online survey enjoyed a participation rate of over 50% of the Clear Channel online listeners asked to volunteer, and will provide stations with a “real-time snapshot of key demographic information for their station.” The companies did not release any findings of the survey.

Clear Channel’s mobile application iHeartRadio is also seeing strong listenership: the company said today that 20% of users who downloaded the application to their iPhones tune in weekly — a high rate compared to other iPhone applications, according to data from Pinch Media — and a user’s listening time averages at 99 minutes per week. Meanwhile, iHeartRadio’s Internet player has been updated with Adobe Flash technology. The player now accesses more than 350 streaming AM/FM broadcasts and features on-demand content, song lyrics and news feeds.

NET AD REVENUES SLOW IN FIRST QUARTER, ANALYSTS STILL PREDICT GAINS

Internet advertising revenues dropped in the first quarter, though the slow down is not as pronounced as the drops in traditional media. Online ad revenues totaled $5.5 billion in the first quarter, down 5% from the fourth quarter’s $6.1 billion total.

The data comes from the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers, which stated, “We’re confident that growth will resume as the U.S. economic climate improves. Interactive advertising is the most accountable way to reach consumers—and in this economy, digital media will be a core component of any successful marketing campaign.” Additionally, most analysts reportedly still predict gains for Internet ads this year, despite this initial drop. Online advertising increased 11% overall in 2008. For more, read CNET’s coverage here.
