CMA ADVISES “DUAL MARKETING PLAN” TO REACH BOTH OFFLINE AND ONLINE FANS

Half of country music fans don’t have a broadband Internet connection at home, according to a recent Country Music Association study. That’s way below the national average: 80% of homes in the U.S. have a computer and 92% of those are connected to the Internet. More-so, of those country fans without web access at home, 42% don’t even want it.

Labels see that they now must engage fans through traditional media alongside promotional efforts online. In fact, the CMA study encourages labels to develop “dual marketing plan[s],” so as to reach both online and offline fans. Some fear this won’t be enough though. “If a sizable [portion] of our audience has no access online, then we’re out of business,” said Capitol Records Nashville President and CEO Mike Dungan. LIVE 105 TO BROADCAST CROWD-SOURCED MUSIC STREAM FROM JELLI.NET

San Francisco’s Live105 (105.3 FM KITS) will be broadcasting crowd-sourced playlists on Sunday, June 28, using Jelli.net’s new, just-launched online service. This user-decided programming can be heard from 10PM to 12AM on the 28th. Users vote for songs they’d like to hear next on Jelli’s website (here). Songs that get more votes move up the queue and get closer to airplay, while tracks that get negative votes move down. Users can also rate currently playing tracks and chat with other listeners. It all happens in real time, too. Jelli’s co-founder and CEO Michael Dougherty says more “big stations in big cities” will be broadcasting Jelli’s content on-air soon. Jelli streams listeners’ choices 24/7 online.

The other two feature video content from radio shows Morning Becomes Eclectic and Good Food. The “In Studio” app offers video from artist performances on the Morning Becomes Eclectic show, while the “Good Food” app will stream interviews with top chefs and other content.
