RAIN 9/23: RAIN Summit East is tomorrow in Philadelphia ·Sep 23, 07:58 AM PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE INAUGURAL FALL EDITION OF THE RAIN SUMMITWe hope to see you tomorrow afternoon at the Hard Rock Cafe in Philadelphia (adjacent to the Philadelphia Convention Center) for our very first RAIN Summit East, concurrent with the NAB Radio Show. Starting at 3pm, this streamlined version of our Spring event will feature a jam-packed 2-1/2 hours of speakers, panels, and a roundtable discussion with representatives from SoundExchange. Immediately afterwards, we’ll host our traditional RAIN Reader Cocktail Party. [For a more detailed run-down of the agenda, please see RAIN here.]
Because of the response so far, we’re expecting an “SRO” crowd. So, if you’d like to attend, please RSVP by e-mailing Kurt at kurt@kurthanson.com. We hope to see you there! Sponsors of the RAIN Summit East include Ando Media, Pandora, AccuRadio, Triton Digital, Slipstream Radio, SoundExchange, RadioTime and Radiolicious. RAIN REVIEW: MIXCLOUD SEPARATES THE DJ FROM THE RADIO STREAMMixcloud, a new web startup generating a bit of attention online, lets DJs upload and share pre-made radio shows which listeners can then stream. Shows are presented as one continuous “song;” that is, you can’t skip from track to track. Nor can you download the program, or subscribe to a DJ’s future shows. But each playlist is searchable by genre and artist, making it easier for listeners to find their favorite type of music. Though the site seems dominated by electronica and dance-driven music for now, Mixcloud promises to be an innovative DJ discovery tool for listeners — a Pandora of DJs, if you will. SchmittCNET: ESPN RADIO ON iPHONE IS “SPORTS RADIO DONE RIGHT”Streaming radio on the iPhone has been “an embarrassment of riches,” writes Rick Broida of CNET, but missing is a “killer sports app.” Broida believes the ESPN Radio app fills that gap: the application streams ESPN shows, podcasts and college football coverage with the ESPN news ticker scrolling along the bottom of the screen, “a dead ringer for what you see on the tube.” Users can also listen to streams in the background (while running other apps) through a “clever workaround.” The verdict? “This is sports radio done right,” writes Broida.
