RAIN 10/13: With more devices out there, BlackBerry may be more important to radio than even iPhones ·Oct 13, 01:23 PM BROADCASTERS, WEBCASTERS HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR BLACKBERRY POTENTIALMuch is made of radio apps on the popular Apple iTunes, but keep in mind that BlackBerry had 3 of the top-5 selling smartphones in the U.S. in Q1 2009 (the BlackBerry Curve moved past the iPhone to become the best-selling smartphone in the early part of this year).
Not surprisingly, broadcasters and webcasters are eager to capitalize on the opportunity to reach potential listeners who own a Blackberry. An Inside Radio report today explains that ESPN and consultant Jacobs Media will soon join the likes of Clear Channel, CBS Radio, and Emmis with apps for the device. Then, there’s Internet-only service Slacker. According to a recent USA Today report, BlackBerry owners make up more than a third of new Slacker registrations each day! DEEZER SECURES $9.6 MILLION IN FINANCINGDigital Music News reports that France-based streaming audio and music discovery service Deezer has scored 6.5 million Euro ($9.6 million) in financing. SONOS NETWORK MUSIC/NET RADIO DEVICE USES iPOD AS REMOTE, NOT MUSIC SOURCEA new Internet-connected music system from Sonos is mostly a Wi-Fi-connected speaker which you remotely control with your iPod Touch or iPhone. The music the Sonos ZonePlayer streams, on the other hand, comes from an iTunes library on any drive on your network; on-demand services Napster, Sirius XM, and Rhapsody; or Internet radio from Last.fm, Pandora, and Deezer.
