RAIN 11/11: Ando to answer industry critics this afternoon ·Nov 11, 01:17 PM ANDO MEDIA WILL ADDRESS CONCERNS OVER NEW METRICS IN CONFERENCE CALL AND ONLINELate last week, with the release of the latest webcast audience ranker, Ando Media unveiled its new Internet radio listening metrics (see details in RAIN here). While some heralded the new measurement terms, many (especially in the ad-buying community) felt blindsided by the change (see coverage of industry reaction in RAIN here).
In response, Ando CEO Bob Maccini will conduct an industry conference call (with an online component) at 4 ET/3 CT this afternoon, in hopes of clarifying the changes it introduced. The session will include time for questions and answers. The link to join the (space-limited) conference call is here. COLUMNIST WARNS SIRIUS TO WATCH OUT FOR INTERNET RADIO“If Sirius XM wants to really show it’s back and firing on all cylinders, it needs to reveal a plan to compete with Internet radio, beyond the offering of an XM SkyDock,” writes Amy Gilroy at Twice.com. (SkyDock recently earned an award from the Consumer Electronics Association, more here).
“Internet radio’s star is rising fast,” with increasing listenership, customizable programming, plenty of mobile options and the promise of easy in-car listening. But satellite radio still holds advantages over webcasts — like an already established in-car presence and no ads. That said, “[Sirius] needs to do more than continually claim it has the best programming on radio, with free Internet radio nipping at its heels and at worst throwing up a roadblock.” Read Gilroy’s full thoughts at Twice.com here. JACOBS MEDIA, SALKOWITZ TO CONSULT JELLI SYNDICATION PROJECT Triton Media has signed on rock radio consultant Jacobs Media and CHR consultant Joel Salkowitz to work with the Dial Global’s “Jelli” syndicated programs. Jelli is a “crowd-sourced” programming tool that lets listeners control the songs that go on the air. (See recent coverage of Dial Global deal in RAIN here). Read more in Radio Online here.
