RAIN 11/24: Radio Ink publisher Rhoads commissions $35 HD radio

Posted on: 11/24/2009

RHOADS WANTS RADIO EMPLOYEES TO BE “INFLUENCERSTHAT SELL THE HD PLATFORM

With the idea of first selling the HD Radio platform to radio professionals before trying to convince consumers to buy in, Radio Ink publisher Eric Rhoads commissioned — and is now selling — Mighty Red, a $35 iPod-sized HD receiver.

Rhoads says his goal is to put the device in the hands of every employee at every radio station in America. “Without the foundation of people in the radio industry owning HD Radio receivers, we cannot expect to convert the rest of the U.S. to HD listeners,” Rhoads wrote in an e-mail to the industry. “Yet if every person working in radio buys an HD Radio receiver, we will have the foundation we need to influence others.”

GOOM RADIO HEAD OF PROGRAMMING EXITS

Radio Online reports today that Tim Herbster has resigned as VP/Programming for Goom Radio. His departure follows those of CEO Rob Williams (September, see RAIN here) and Chief Sales Officer Drew Hilles and Marketing Director Hayeon Kim (both in October, here). Herbster was part of the team that launched Goom in March, the well-financed ($16 million, see RAIN coverage here), high-profile Internet radio start-up. Radio Online’s coverage is here.

MIROAMER PARENT COMPANY TRADES ON FRANKFURT EXCHANGE

The parent company of miRoamer, Mi Media Holdings, is now trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, which will give the company access to European capital markets to fund growth and expansion plans into Europe and Asia.

The miRoamer software is an Internet radio platform for consumer devices like car radios, smart phones, gaming consoles and televisions and home stereo systems. MiRoamer powers the Blaupunkt Internet radio for the automobile (here).
