2010 LOOKS EVEN MORE PROMISING FOR MOBILE LISTENERSHIPThis year, applications for iPhones, Blackberrys and other smartphones reinvigorated radio, USA Today writes, and next year looks even more promising.
For example, Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio mobile app accounts for 10% of the company’s digital listening, Executive Vice President Evan Harrison said. “We expect to at least double that number” in 2010, he predicted. “That’s a modest goal.” The iHeartRadio app for Android devices debuts Wednesday.
“It’s a rocketship in listening,” said CBS Interactive Music Group President David Goodman of mobile listening. “In the last seven months, our streaming audience has doubled.” And then there’s Pandora, which announced recently that 1 million of its daily listeners tunes in from smartphones (RAIN coverage here).
