LANE SUGGESTS PANDORA’S UBIQUITY MAY MAKE ITS NAME “GENERIC” FOR “INTERNET RADIO”Like Kleenex for facial tissues and Google for online searching, is Pandora now representative of the entire Internet radio industry? Is it “so entrenched at the top of their product category that their name has replaced the generic word for their product”? Audio4Cast’s Jennifer Lane (pictured left) ponders that question and analyzes the reasons why Pandora has come to become Internet radio’s representative brand.
For example, Lane suggests, Pandora has “diligently pursued mobile, automotive and wireless platforms,” while carefully building relationships with listeners. In the end though, “Pandora’s success benefits all of Internet radio as more and more listeners are exposed to streaming.” Continue reading Lane’s thoughts at Audio4Cast here. M&A EXPERT EXPLAINS WHY HE THINKS MYSPACE SHOULD ACQUIRE PANDORAAmong the mergers and acquisitions Kelly Porter, an expert from Woodside Capital Partners, would like to see in 2010 is an acquisition of Pandora by MySpace.
Porter says Pandora, “a bona fide internet behemoth,” would revitalize the MySpace brand and create a juggernaut of music services, as MySpace has already acquired imeem and iLike. “A MySpace-Pandora combination would create formidable scale which would span multiple segments of the music industry — from coffee shop singer/songwriters to arena rock bands — and provide benefits to music consumers that are not available elsewhere,” Porter writes. The Pandora/MySpace acquisition is just one of ten such ideas from Porter.
