RAIN 1/11: Ando says non-clients will soon be able to "opt-in" to webcast ratings ·Jan 11, 10:53 AM ANDO SAYS IT’LL PROVIDE “LISTENER-LEVEL” DATA TO CLIENT WEBCASTERSAndo Media will measure listener data from non-subscribing webcasters as part of its new Basic Measurement service, Inside Radio reports. The free measurement service is reportedly aimed at creating a more accurate and complete report of all Internet radio listening. Currently, Ando Media only included subscribers’ audience data in its monthly Webcast Metrics rankings.
Webcasters can partake in Ando Media’s Basic Measurement service by registering at getmeasured.org and installing a player-based code. Non-subscribers will only have access to monthly listener reports, while subscribers can view their audience data any time. Additional audience data, like location, will not be measured for non-subscribers. Additionally, Ando Media reportedly announced current subscribers will now receive listener-level audience data, rather than just IP-level data. “This is something that will give us a much truer picture of the total cumulative audience in the marketplace,” said Ando SVP Patrick Reynolds. The change in measurement could bump up many webcasters’ listener count as multiple users could be listening from a single IP address, Ando Media reportedly pointed out. Inside Radio has more on the story here. RAIN hopes to soon report more details about Ando Media’s new program, including specifics on the new “player-based code” for non-subscribers and how the company determines how many listeners are tuning in through a single IP address. BUSINESS WEEK: PANDORA IN TALKS WITH MORE CAR COMPANIESFord last week announced My Ford Touch, an in-car “infotainment” system that includes easy access to Pandora smartphone apps (RAIN coverage here) — but Pandora isn’t stopping there. Business Week reports that the webcaster is “in talks” with more car companies, as well as makers of Blu-ray DVD players. Pandora founder Tim Westergren described the inclusion of Pandora in cars as the company’s “holy grail…it signals an important new era for Web radio.”
He also said that Pandora has seen high activation rates from people listening in from Blu-ray DVD players and other Internet-connected home entertainment systems. “We’re trying to get everywhere,” Westergren said. Did you read the “Measurement Agreement” for GetMeasured.org? There’s nothing free. You have to place ads on your website! Here’s the paragraph:
“c) Synced 728×90 leaderboard, and 120×600 skyscraper creative must be placed above the fold on an 800×600 pixel screen (within 500 pixels of the top of the webpage) so they are viewable without scrolling while audio ads are playing; 300×250 medium rectangles must be placed above the fold on an 800×600 pixel screen (within 500 pixels of the top of the webpage), unless the ad format is placed in-text. For clarification on what qualifies as in-text placement, please email the publisher support department before ad placement to ensure that you are in compliance with these terms and conditions.”
They’re not doing you a favor.

This is NOT about measuring the streaming universe. It is about adding publishers. Bait and switch. Does anyone tell the truth anymore?
