Boston-based Greater Media announced today that it is elevating Detroit market manger Tom Bender to Senior VP/General Manager of the company’s Greater Media Interactive unit.

In his new role, he will be responsible for Greater Media’s interactive efforts, as well as coordinating and consulting individual station efforts, including streamlining online resources for all Greater Media stations.

Bender has served as Market Manager for the company’s Detroit-based properties (including WRIF, WMGC, and WCSX) since 1986.

“I believe that radio has to develop its interactive relationship with both listeners and advertisers,” said Bender. “It is a wonderful complement to our existing brands, and the two media, when properly integrated, make a creative and cost-effective solution for advertiser needs.”

“Tom was the perfect choice for this exciting position,” said Greater Media President/CEO Peter Smyth. “His vast knowledge of both the radio industry and today’s technology will help allow *him to take our company to the next level in the interactive arena.”

Bender, a Detroit native, has also served on a variety of industry committees, including the Arbitron Advisory Council, the NAB’s COLRAM Committee and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Radio Issues Committee.

He will continue to oversee the company’s three Detroit radio outlets until a new Market Manager is named.

Greater Media owns 20 AM and FM stations in Philadelphia, Detroit, Boston, and throughout New Jersey.
