SERVICE BUILDS PLAYLISTS AROUND YOUR MOOD, BUT MUSIC LIBRARY IS LACKING

Sure, you can create custom radio streams based on favorite artists with any number of sites. Music service Stereomood aims to instead cater to your moods and activities, sculpting playlists for those times when you feel “dreamy,” “sexy,” are “lost in thought,” or even “driving Route 66.” There’s around 150 of these types of selections, which makes the toughest part of using Stereomood picking just what exact mood you’re in!

Once you click a mood or activity, you’re presented with a playlist of 75 to 200 songs which can be shuffled or refreshed. Each song can be added to your personal library, where you can also upload your own tunes. The site’s minimalistic design is charming and the simple set-up makes it quick and easy to get into the music listening experience. However, Stereomood’s music library seems limited to indie and alternative tunes — which makes for a great music discovery experience for an indie fan like me — but other music fans may be disappointed. — MS

Arbitron stopped measuring Internet radio listenership in April 2009 (RAIN coverage here). Inside Radio has more here (registration required).

PIRATE BAY FOUNDER: RADIOEVEN MORE IMPORTANT IN YEARS TO COME

“In a world increasingly dominated by information overflow we need help to sort out the new, relevant and interesting bits of content,” said Peter Sunde, the founder and CEO of torrent tracking site The Pirate Bay. “I think radio will be even more important in the years to come – as an intelligent filter, a trusted guide and a good companion in our daily lives.” Sunde will speak at the Radiodays Europe conference in Copenhagen about — among other things — the future of radio. Radio Intelligence has more here.
