RAIN 3/23: RAIN Summit West adds three key experts to speaker roster
ESPN DIGITAL EXEC, ADIFY COFOUNDER, TOP INDUSTRY RESEARCH EXPERT TO SPEAKToday we’ve added three more big names to our roster of speakers at the upcoming RAIN Summit West, our annual day-long gathering at the NAB in Las Vegas.
Joining us for RAIN Summit West, Monday, April 12th, are ESPN Digital Media VP/Partnerships & Revenue Development Marc Horine, Adify co-founder Russ Fradin, and SVP & Managing Director for Radio at research firm Vision Critical, Jeff Vidler.
Marc Horine handles digital content strategy, distribution and production for the ESPN Radio Division (local, national & mobile). He also oversees digital partnerships for various ESPN properties. Horine (pictured) began his career at ABC/ESPN Radio Networks in 1996 and has worked in digital media for the past 11 years. We’re looking forward to hearing from him at the Summit.
Russ Fradin co-founded Adify, a “vertical ad networks platform,” in 2005. He had been EVP/Corporate Development for comScore Networks, and began his career at Flycast Communications with a number of different roles during his four year tenure, culminating in Flycast/Engage’s VP of Business Development. He’ll take part in the “Making It a Real Business” panel.
Earlier this month Jeff Vidler appeared at our RAIN Summit North event to preview results of a brand new multi-thousand-person research study called Radio Futures 2010. Jeff and his team learned about the habits of Internet radio listeners in North America and the UK, and will present the findings at RAIN Summit West. (See the RTTNews’s RAIN Summit site here to Vidler’s presentation, plus other highlights, from RAIN Summit North.)
Our annual RAIN Summit West in Las Vegas is the premiere educational and networking event of the year for Internet radio. We’ve put together a day of informative panels and presentations on the technical and legal aspects of the Internet radio business, along with sessions to offering programming expertise and methods of improving your business strategies. Once again, the RAIN Summit will be an official co-located event of the NAB Show, meaning that RAIN Summit registrants have access to the 2010 NAB Show exhibits.
And, as always, the Summit will include Kurt Hanson’s “State of the Industry Address” and our famous RAIN Reader Cocktail Party to cap off the day. See the RAIN Summit West agenda here.

JUST OFF SUCCESSFUL SXSW COVERAGE, PIONEERING NET-ONLY WOXY SUSPENDS OPERATIONSFor the third time in its Internet-radio history, Austin- (formerly Oxford, OH) based WOXY.com, as of today, has suspended operations. Current owner Future Sounds, which purchased the webcaster from Lala.com in 2009, says it can no longer muster the cash necessary to keep the station running.
Most recently, the indie rock webcaster garnered props for its coverage of last week’s SXSW music showcase in Austin, TX. The station relocated its operations there just six months ago.
In an open letter to colleagues, music director Matt Shiv wrote, “It will take a pretty incredible company/plan coming around now to make me want to stick around at this point (although I guess we have to wait to see if anything shakes out in the days ahead). This time around, we no longer own WOXY and the entire situation is completely out of our hands.”
TARGETSPOT TO SYNDICATE OPRAH’S HARPO RADIO CONTENT TO PUREPLAY NET RADIOOprah Winfrey’s Harpo Radio will provide audio content for sponsorship and syndication on Internet radio to TargetSpot, as per a deal announced today. The agreement will also have TargetSpot selling the streaming inventory on a new Harpo Radio player, set to debut at the end of next month at HarpoRadio.com.
The syndicated audio content will come from Harpo Radio talent such as Gayle King, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Laura Berman and Derrick Ashong, among others. A press release is here.
