Marc Horine handles digital content strategy, distribution and production for the ESPN Radio Division (local, national & mobile). He had been EVP/Corporate Development for comScore Networks, and began his career at Flycast Communications with a number of different roles during his four year tenure, culminating in Flycast/Engage’s VP of Business Development. JUST OFF SUCCESSFUL SXSW COVERAGE, PIONEERING NET-ONLY WOXY SUSPENDS OPERATIONSFor the third time in its Internet-radio history, Austin- (formerly Oxford, OH) based WOXY.com, as of today, has suspended operations. Current owner Future Sounds, which purchased the webcaster from Lala.com in 2009, says it can no longer muster the cash necessary to keep the station running.
Most recently, the indie rock webcaster garnered props for its coverage of last week’s SXSW music showcase in Austin, TX. The station relocated its operations there just six months ago. In an open letter to colleagues, music director Matt Shiv wrote, “It will take a pretty incredible company/plan coming around now to make me want to stick around at this point (although I guess we have to wait to see if anything shakes out in the days ahead). This time around, we no longer own WOXY and the entire situation is completely out of our hands.” A short video documentary of the station is here.
