RAIN 3/24: Radio legend Steve Dahl joins RAIN Summit West roster ·Mar 24, 11:38 AM HOST OF POPULAR PODCAST WILL APPEAR ON “BEYOND THE TOWER: EXTENDING YOUR AUDIO REACH” PANELChicago radio legend Steve Dahl has added his name to the growing list of radio and digital media luminaries who’ll share their knowledge as part of RAIN Summit West, our annual industry conference, April 12th in Las Vegas (during the NAB show).
For thirty years Dahl has entertained Chicago radio listeners during stints on stations like WLS, WLUP, WCKG, and WDAI (among others). After Dahl’s most-recent on-air stint at CBS-owned WJMK ended in 2008, Dahl launched a daily podcast, “The Steve Dahl Show,” which fans download from his website, As a legendary radio personality who’s left broadcast for the world of “on-demand” audio and a digital platform, Dahl is an ideal contributor to the Summit’s “Beyond the Tower: Extending Your Audio Reach” panel. Hosted by Edison Media Research’s Tom Webster, the panel will examine how stations leverage alternative channels of audio distribution (e.g. podcasts, on-demand streams, and side channels) to grow audience and Kinsey Wilson, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of NPR Digital Media, will present the keynote address at the Summit. Our annual RAIN Summit West in Las Vegas is the premiere educational and networking event of the year for Internet radio. We’ve put together a day of informative panels and presentations on the technical and legal aspects of the Internet radio business, along with sessions to offering programming expertise and And, as always, the Summit will include Kurt Hanson’s “State of the Industry Address” and our famous RAIN Reader Cocktail Party to cap off the day. STUDY SHOWS AS MANY WOULD USE IPAD FOR MUSIC AS FOR READINGA comScore survey seems to indicate that consumers view the anticipated Apple iPad as a music device at least as much as they see it as an electronic reading device. The study asked 2,176 Internet users about their “awareness, attitudes and opinions of the Apple iPad and other e-readers/tablet devices.” When asked, “If you owned an iPad, how likely would you be to use the following features of activities on the device?,” 38% percent said they’d likely “listen to music,” edging out the 37% who said they’d be likely to use it to “read books.” Fully half said they’d likely “browse the Internet, and just a few fewer (48%) felt they’d use it for e-mail.
