RAIN 05/06: S.F. Music Tech event to feature SoundExchange webcaster panel

Posted on: 05/06/2010

SoundExchange, the organization that administers digital sound recording performance royalties, is organizing a educational panel session geared towards webcasters for the San Fran Music Tech Summit event May 17th at San Francisco’s Hotel Kabuki.

RAIN publisher Kurt Hanson will begin the session with his “State of the Industry” presentation. Pandora founder Tim Westergren is the first confirmed panel speaker, with others to follow.

SoundExchange will be represented by VP of New Media and External Affairs Bryan Calhoun (who participated in our RAIN Summit East last fall in Philadelphia) and Licensing & Enforcement Manager Kyle Funn (whose “pecha kucha” presentation at the recent RAIN Summit West can be seen here).

The San Fran Music Tech Summit is a semi-annual gathering of “developers, entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, journalists, musicians and organizations” in the music and technology space. Read more about it and register here.

“We definitely want it to be interactive and as useful as possible in addressing the concerns of licensees,” SoundExchange communications director Laura Williams told RAIN.

Following the panel, SoundExchange will also host a more “informal and roundtable-ish” lunch meeting with webcasters at the Kabuki.

jacAPPS, the mobile application division of Jacobs Media, was chosen by Entercom to produce mobile apps for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices for 78 of its 110 stations. The first apps are scheduled to hit this month.

WEEI.com VP/GM and Entercom Digital Manager Tim Murphy commented, “The Jacobs Media family has had a long partnership with Entercom on the radio programming side of the business, so it made sense to continue the partnership in this exciting new way to get our brands into this emerging marketplace.”

Entercom is the U.S.‘s fifth-largest radio broadcaster, with stations in 23 markets including San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, and Denver. Incidentally, both Murphy and jacAPPS/Jacobs Media president Fred Jacobs participated in last month’s RAIN Summit West in Las Vegas (once again, video from RTTNews is here.

To kick off the 2010 installment of their official Bootleg series, Pearl Jam have launched “Pearl Jam Radio,” an online stream of concert and studio recordings and interviews with fans. It’s available at PearlJam.com here.

Fans can buy the recordings on CD, lossless FLAC download, or MP3. Pearl Jam began its official bootleg series with the release of recordings of all 72 shows on their 2000 world tour.

Meanwhile, RFC Media has produced “Lexus Radio Driven by Lexus of Las Vegas. The Live365-hosted stream is available on the Lexus of Las Vegas website here.
